pets, report animal cruelty, contact details, and how you can help support us.
We can unfortunately not take in any more animals at the moment.

Dog Training Ireland is a school for Ethical Dog Training and Behaviour work in Dublin. Their mission is to help dogs live in our human world through better communication and understanding. This in turn will bring harmony and happiness to the home for everyone involved. You can find practical tips under the Notes tab on their Facebook page. This week it's How to teach LOOK- how to get your dog to pay attention to you. |

We are always looking for good homes for rescued animals so if you are considering adopting a dog or cat, please check out our Rehoming page.
We have introduced a new program of micro-chipping all dogs at the
Rescue Centre. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please phone
to make an appointment as the Inspector may be out on call. We have
various ages, breeds and sizes of dogs which you can become familiar with before making your decision. We look forward to your visit.

Unfortunately, animal rescue centres all over Ireland
receive a large number of cases of animal cruelty and neglect. If
you are aware of animals that are suffering unacceptable conditions,
please contact us by email, lissoy.dogs@gmail.com, info@aspca.ie or phone Inspector Paul
McCormack 087 6178871, 090 6485910. In an emergency your local Garda Station can be contacted.

Have you or anyone you know lost a pet? Please have a look at our Lost and Found page.
If you find a stray dog, or if you have lost your dog, contact Mullingar
Dog Pound on 044 9343934 and leave a detailed message. ASPCA has permission
to rescue injured dogs but not to take in stray dogs. You can also
send details of your pet with a picture to info@aspca.ie and we can
add this to our Lost and Found page for you.

The ASPCA has a fantastic Sponsor a Dog programme! You can have all the benefits of having a dog without all the responsibility!
Sponsoring one of our dogs means you will be giving a donation
towards a particular dog. You will receive a special memento and
updates on your chosen sponsored dog. Sponsorship will help towards
dog food, dog toys and vet bills. You can come out to the sanctuary
and walk your sponsored dogs whenever you have free time. If you
are interested in sponsoring a dog please contact us or download a Sponsor
Form. Many thanks to everyone who sponsored a dog 2008 and 2009.
We have set up a new blog, ASPCA Today. If you wish to join and add your own text and pictures, mail webmaster@aspca.ie and we will set up a user ID for you. You will get a mail back with a link that you have to click within the next 2-3 days, then you get a random password and can log in.

ASPCA is always looking for new volunteers to help out
- can you spare 1 hour a week to help clean out the kennels, feed
and water the dogs? Or could you spend some time interacting with
the dogs and maybe take them for a short walk? Without our volunteers
the society would not be able to run! This ensures we get a broad and balanced view of
how the rescue centre should be run. Members can attend meetings and
are also involved with fund raising events. The annual fee is €20
(goes directly to ASPCA funds). We need as many hands as possible
to help all the paws we have here! |

The Athlone & West Midlands Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals is an independent charity organization. We have our own sanctuary based in Lissoy, The Pigeons, Tubberclair,
Athlone, Co Westmeath. The society has been in existence since 1959.
The current shelter was established in 2000 and is run entirely by
volunteers. We take in abused, neglected and unwanted dogs and since
2004 have successfully re-homed over 300 dogs. We also respond to
other injured/abused animals e.g. cats, rabbits, cattle, birds, swans,
hedgehogs, horses & donkeys. We rely on donations and fundraising
to maintain the sanctuary and have been fortunate to receive a grant
from the Dept. of Agriculture for the last couple of years to help
run the sanctuary and make necessary improvements. Chief outgoings
are veterinary fees, telephone charges, cat & dog food, electricity
and insurance..
Visits by Appointment only Monday to Saturday. Contact ASPCA on 090 6485910 or 087 6178871. |
